Resolution Update #3

It's been a while since I updated my blog, which is just because life has been so crazy. My Maxie has crossed the Rainbow Bridge after her struggles with chronic renal failure. That was a very devastating day for me, but the positive side is that I was able to welcome two new kitties who needed a forever home. Flynn and Anna have their very own Instagram account, because I'm a crazy cat lady who needs an outlet to share all their adorableness!

There was a lot of stressful change in March and April, but I feel like my life is slowly starting to even out again. One of my resolutions was to get three books published this year, and the past two months have definitely thrown a wrench into my writing schedule.

I was able to get a lot of writing done this weekend—enough to get the first half sent off to my critique partner. So, while it's taken a lot longer than I had planned, BREAKOUT PLAY is moving along.

Another resolution of mine was to go to the gym three times a week. I stopped going once Maxie was sick and needed to receive medications and fluid therapy. And once the Flynn and Anna came home, I wanted to be home to make sure they were adjusting well. I hope to pick up my gym routine again soon.

My third resolution was to get organized. I'm still working on that, too. Since my last update, I've:

  • hung my purses and scarves on hooks in my closet, to organize
  • worked on getting a shelf installed in my closet and also some additional shelving in my living room as well.
  • given away items to the local Goodwill, in the hopes that someone can use the things I don't need anymore.
  • cleaned out some of my fridge and freezer and organized my kitchen cupboards.
  • moved my hobby/craft area into my office and organized that as well. I have some scrapbooking I'd like to do, but that is a project for another time.
  • built a cat tree for Flynn and Anna in the space where the hobby/craft area was in the living room, and set up a window seat against the sliding glass doors overlooking my balcony, giving them a space and furniture of their own. I also rewrapped the cat pedestal with new sisal rope for scratching.
  • reorganized my linen closet.

That's pretty much what I've been up to; not exactly very exciting!

As for May, I plan to do a lot more writing. I'll post some teasers and short excerpts from BREAKOUT PLAY on my Facebook author page as I have them, so you can see what I'm working on.

And of course, to see what else I'll be up to this month check out below for a schedule of events!

Keeping Up With the Jacobses:
May 2016

  • All month long: I'll be in the Sin Bin all month long as the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue. If you're not a member of this Facebook group, you don't know what you're missing!
  • Monday, May 23: Some awesome hockey romance authors (and myself) will be hosting a Facebook event, For the Love of the Cup, from 4:00 to 11:00 pm. We're gonna celebrate the Stanley Cup playoffs, the teams who've made it, those who haven't, and the hot hockey players who devote themselves to the game.

  1. Sounds like you're doing pretty well on your resolutions. My clutter-clearing got stuck in the paper category. Sigh.

    1. The gym resolution kind of fell by the wayside, but I'm ready to pick it back up.

If you get a shredder, it will be much more fun to go through papers!

Remember Me?

*Knock, knock* Anybody out there? Or, better yet, anybody remember me? It's Jay! I haven't completely disappeared, or fallen off the face of the earth. I took a break from posting stories here on Blogger in order to try my hand at writing novels. So many of you, my lovely devoted readers, have left me comments saying that my writing's just as good--sometimes better!--than the books you've read. I especially received a lot of encouragement from fellow Blogger Melanie Ting , who has successfully e-published her first story! So I'm trying my hand at writing full-length novels, and I have lots of new material that I'm e-publishing through Amazon through 2013. First up, I'm publishing Play the Man , a reworked version of A Sharp Contrast. I changed the characters and updated the story, and I'm really happy with the finished product. Here's a peek at the cover:    I love it! What do you think? The story will go live on Amazon later tonight (

Hottie Hockey Hunks Blog Hop—GIVEAWAY!

Good morning, and happy hockey! Today is officially the start of the 2013-14 NHL season, and I for one couldn't be happier. Well, I'll be happier on Thursday when the Penguins play the Devils for the season opener, but I suppose I'm just being picky. Anyway. Have you ever heard of a blog hop? I hadn't—until I was invited to join one! So let me explain: bloggers with common interests unite to promote each other. So below, I have a link of seven other hockey romance writers you might be interested in. If you're familiar with me, then you've probably heard of Melanie Ting—a fellow writer who got her start in Blogger. But you should check out these other ladies and maybe find some new authors to enjoy! As a part of the Hottie Hockey Hunks Blog Hop , I'm sponsoring a giveaway (cue flashing lights! Cue trumpets!). I've decided to give a free copy of my new novel, Shots on Net , to one lucky reader who comments on this post! Please leave your e-mail addre

If April Showers Bring May Flowers, Do May Flowers Bring June Bugs?

Y'all. May was a crazy month. I had so much fun in Niagara Falls and Gettysburg, attending those two author events (Romancing the Falls and Rockin' Romance Readers, respectively). Mama J came with me, and we had a blast hanging out with  Lisa B. Kamps  again, meeting Christine and Victoria of Sweet & Sassy Reads , and loading up our shelves with books by new-to-us authors! Oh yeah, and I had a book come out, too. :) So even though May was awesome, I'm a little bit glad it's over. I'm still celebrating my latest release, but I'm also getting to work on what's to come. Things I'm up to: Proofing the paperback copy of  Dump and Chase  before announcing that paperbacks are for sale! Working on getting the paperback for  "Christmas Crosscheck"  up and hopefully available for pre-order (I hear it's kind of complicated; for those in the know, Amazon changed their paperback process and I hear some people aren't able to have pre
